Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This popular resource allows the reader to appropriately select and accurately interpret laboratory tests in a practical and efficient manner. It presents an organized method of answering common questions that reflect the most frequently encountered problems in laboratory tests. A new chapter on Point-of-Care Methodology has been added, and the section on electrolyte/acid-base now includes strong ion differences. Two additional color plates feature 12 new figures.

5 out of 5 stars A must for busy practices   July 7, 2008
K. Leys (Grand Island, NY United States)
This book was a little known about, but now fought over book at our practice. When it goes missing, we panic! It explains all abnormal lab values (including lab errors, cell changes, shipping changes etc.) and lists differentials as well.
When you have that otherwise normal patient with very abnormal lab work this book has been VERY helpful at sorting out real vs artifact changes.
Like they say "if you aren't chasing the abnormals, don't run the bloodwork!"
We love this book.

5 out of 5 stars Very Useful for Practitioners and Students   November 17, 2009
MichaelaQuinn (United States)

This has been one of the most useful books I've ever had in veterinary private practice. If I could have only two veterinary textbooks, this would be one of them. (The other would be Feldman and Nelson's Canine and Feline Endocrinology and Reproduction.) I'd recommend this book first just for the sheer ease of quickly looking up useful information. Using this book allows the practitioner or student to realistically interpret laboratory values, understanding that there can be many reasons for a particular value; and it reminds us that the test result may not be correct. I've had the previous editions of this book and always looked forward to each new updated version. This latest edition did not disappoint and is well worth the price.

This book always provides an answer to all my questions concerning lab issues. The subject is centered with the correct and appropriate focus and useful data (and a lot of reference ranges) are always provided. It always manages to solve my problems in a quick and efficient way. As a Veterinary analysis lab director, i have greatly appreciated this book for its excellent price - quality ratio. It's a pity it only covers small animals!
