Reptile Medicine and Surgery November 26, 1999 Dr. Bonnie Ballard 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
This is in my opinion the best reference available on the topic of reptile medicine and surgery. It is well organized, up-to-date and well written. Dr. Mader along with his contributors are all very well respected in this field and provide the most current knowledge on the subject. This text is a must for anyone who sees these animals in their practice or for someone wanting to add these species to their practice.
This is the bible - worth every penny February 25, 2002 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
As an advanced herp keeper, I held off on getting this book for a while, intimidated by the price tag. Since taking the plunge, I regret only the money I spent on other books before getting this one. Not that there isn't good information available elsewhere, but Mader's book is the standard to which it's all compared.Once you've gotten past Iguanas for Dummies (or other appropriate species-specific husbandry information), this is the book that will take you to the next level.
MUST HAVE September 21, 2003 wd lady (Toronto.Canada) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is an excellent book. It is advanced in reading but when can you get to much info on reptiles? I have read this large book cover to cover. I find that when you go to your reptile vet it is very useful. When your vet gives your reptile medicine you can read up on everything on the drug, treatment, ect. This is where you become your own source of information. It gives you the ability to ask important medical questions. I'm in Canada and you have to be careful on those who claim to treat reptiles. This gives you the ability to have some good questions for your vet. I love having this book it is a great tool for a vet as well. Lets say your vet is away and you find someone that can treat them, this is a great book to bring along as it is written for quick reference for vets. The vet will be able to consult excellent information to make sure that they are able to make the right choice. I could never live without my Mader book!!!
The finest book available about reptile medicine. August 2, 1996 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Mader, the man whose name is synonomous with reptile
medicine, has taken reptile medical texts to a new level.
This book is logically laid out so information may be
quickly and easily extracted. This book is far superior to
Fry's texts in layout, content, and price. Reptile
Medicine and Surgery is a must have for any veterinarian
who treats reptiles or serious reptile keeper.
SERIOUS HERPETOLOGISTS ONLY July 16, 2005 B. BOESENBERG (WANAQUE, NJ United States) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I won't recapitulate what you find in the description. Simply put, as a herpetologist who works with, and rescues, crocodilians, venomous snakes, wide varieties of turtles, lizards and snakes I can't do with out this book. Actually I have two copies, one is downstairs with the animals where it has been dropped into turtle tanks and has some very interesting stains on it and the other is in my library. My point is that this book is too useful not to have on hand.
